Hooray, the interstate travel ban is gone! Whether it’s reuniting with loved ones in different states or just a desperate need to unwind away from home, everyone is busy planning trips! 

If you want to avoid the crowd in other states, how about going for day trips out of Klang Valley instead? Get your travel kakis together, and make sure you take all the necessary precautions to stay safe! 

Here are some destinations for your next day trip out of Klang Valley: 

Kuala Kubu Bharu, Hulu Selangor

This sleepy town is just an hour out of KL and boasts a beautiful scenic view surrounded by nature. Although it’s a common stop on the way to Fraser’s Hill, KKB is a great spot for fun activities, fantastic food and just a relaxing time with your loved ones! 

What to do there? 

  • Visit Kuala Kubu Bharu’s Heritage Trail. This trail covers 8 points of interest from the Kuala Kubu Baru clock tower to the mural lane. 
  • Paraglide about 1,400 feet above sea level at Bukit Batu Pahat. 
  • Hike for approximately 3-4 hours to the summit of Bukit Kutu, a popular hiking spot for beginners and adventure seekers alike. 
  • Trek through the water to reach Sungai Chilling Waterfall, it’s worth the view! Relax in the cool river water or have a picnic there. 
  • Take in the panoramic view of the Selangor River Dam from Second Bridge during the day and stargaze at the same spot come night time. 
  • Soak your legs at Kuala Kubu Bharu Hot Spring. 

Sekinchan, Kuala Selangor

Sekinchan is a popular fishing village in Selangor filled with paddy fields. During harvest seasons, you’ll lush green paddy panning out all around you. It might get pretty hot during the day, be prepared! 

What to do there? 

  • Visit the picturesque Sekinchan Paddy Fields and get your insta-worthy shots. 
  • For a more educational experience, head on to Sekinchan Rice Mill Factory. This factory allows visitors to delve into the process of the paddy plantation through videos, tours and a fun little museum at the end. 
  • Make a donation at a temple nearby, get a red ribbon, write down your wishes and throw it up the Sekinchan Wishing Tree. The higher your ribbon is, the higher your chances are. 
  • Enjoy the sea breeze at Pantai Redang Beach. It might not be an idyllic white, sandy beach, but you can spend time taking pictures and enjoying a meal nearby!
  • Try private fine dining (Omakase Teochew Seafood) in the middle of the paddy fields with Ninja Private Kitchen
  • Bonus: Kuala Selangor has plenty of spots to visit – Tanjong Keramat Fort, Kuala Selangor Nature Park (Taman Alam), Kuala Selangor Fireflies. 

Pulau Ketam

Just off the coast of Port Klang (and 90 mins away from KL) lies Carey Island, a peaceful fishing village. Spend your day walking and cycling around this community of floating villages. After all, bicycles are the only mode of transportation allowed on this island. 

What to do there? 

  • Cycle around the village and be careful about disturbing the residents in their houses. 
  • Watch locals dry shrimps and support them by purchasing minced shrimp paste. 
  • Try to find all the murals around town. 
  • Purchase seafood-related snacks and souvenirs for family and friends! 
  • Grab a meal at one of their popular seafood restaurants & support the local tourism/fisherman. Seafood is abundant here – crabs, fish and prawn dishes.
